Nissan & SK On Expand EV Battery Supply in the United States

Nissan and SK On Join Forces autosoto

SK On and Nissan reached a vital battery supply deal which aims to speed up the North American electric vehicle (EV) market’s development. This business deal stipulates that SK On will deliver 100GWh of high-performance high-nickel batteries to Nissan from 2028 to 2033. The production of these batteries in the United States will power upcoming Nissan EVs that will be assembled at the Canton facility in Mississippi.

The agreement advances the manufacturing of future electric vehicles.

Both companies officially demonstrate their dedication to electric mobility solutions through their commitment to local manufacturing of sustainable vehicles. Childerges USD661 million for total investments which will generate 1,700 U.S. jobs at SK On facilities. Nissan invested $500 million into its Canton Assembly Plant facility to manufacture its forthcoming next-gen EV products resulting in improved position in North American EV market expansion.

Christian Meunier as Nissan Americas chairman highlighted the critical value of “This agreement with SK On as it enhances both Nissan’s electric vehicle development and U.S. manufacturing commitments.” Nissan will use the strong partnership with SK On to access their expanding U.S. manufacturing capabilities which enables them to build cutting-edge electric vehicles that meet market requirements.

Strengthening U.S. Battery Production Capacity

The deal represents SK On’s initial partnership for battery supply services with a Japanese automotive company and it extends their worldwide customer network. The South Korean SK Group subsidiary SK On manages two battery production facilities in the United States while building another four plants through collaborations with essential business partners. SK On’s U.S. battery plants will reach an annual production capacity that exceeds 180GWh when all construction is completed thus becoming a leading power in the EV battery industry.

Seok-hee Lee the president and CEO of SK On stated about this agreement that it demonstrates how strong their battery technology remains while they expand their North American market operations. Through our manufacturing bases and technical experience we continue our commitment to help Nissan with their electric vehicle strategy and the growing sustainable transportation movement.

Accelerating Nissan’s EV Strategy

The company has been speeding up development of its EV framework within its extended business plan. During the previous year Nissan announced their 30-model product launch plan which will include 16 electrified vehicles to be released over three years. The Canton assembly facility will introduce completely new EV models which will start manufacturing operations during 2028. The local EV manufacturing initiative demonstrates Nissan’s strong commitment to plant production near customers and lower carbon emissions and deliver innovative EV products to buyers.

Nissan fortifies its supply chain through its collaboration with SK On because the worldwide EV market growth demands reliable high-quality battery supplies for successful EV market mass adoption. The automotive sector has selected Nissan as a leader because it invested at home in battery manufacturing and committed to working with SK On for supply chain partnership.

This collaboration enables increased American economic growth through job market creation.

Boosting U.S. Job Creation and Economic Growth

This joint effort creates additional economic value in addition to technological progress. The expansion of SK On’s production infrastructure opens new employment prospects for manufacturing and engineering and logistics which reinforces EVs as key drivers of economy growth in the United States. The new strategic investments across these two companies aim to improve American automotive supply chain stability through local battery production which reduces foreign imports while enhancing U.S. EV technology.
